From the Amerika-Haus to the Amerikazentrum
The Amerikazentrum Hamburg is a binational cultural institute that promotes German-American educational and cultural exchange. It is run by the non-profit association Amerikazentrum Hamburg e. V., founded in 1997 after the closure of the tradition-steeped Amerika-Haus.
The centre is administered on a voluntary basis; to carry out its programmes, the association receives support from the U.S. Embassy and the Federal Foreign Office.
Since the closure of the long-standing Hamburg location at Am Sandtorkai, events have taken place at changing venues – often in close cooperation with other cultural institutions, the U.S. Consulate General Hamburg or the U.S. Embassy in Berlin.

Founding of the association
After the closure of the tradition-steeped Amerika-Haus, the non-profit association Amerikazentrum Hamburg e. V. is founded to continue German-American educational and cultural exchange.
New board
Laura Langford takes over as chair of the Amerikazentrum Hamburg e. V. and has shaped the association’s strategic direction ever since.
America 250
The Amerikazentrum accompanies the 250th birthday of the United States with an extensive programme of events and educational offerings.
