The first transatlantic journalism programme for teenagers aged 16 to 18 starts on 7 August 2021.
The Amerikazentrum Hamburg e. V., supported by the U.S. Embassy in Berlin, the U.S. Consulate General Hamburg and the Federal Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany, is hosting the first transatlantic journalism programme for young people from Hamburg and the USA.
The programme consists of four digital seminars developed and hosted by Deborah Steinborn, an American journalist in Hamburg. In the four seminars, participants learn the basics of journalistic reporting, conducting interviews, assessing and evaluating news, writing articles and “pitching” their reports to editorial teams.
The invited experts are both journalism lecturers and working journalists from the USA and Germany, including Terri Towner, Katina Paron and David Patrician. The seminar programme also covers simplifying one's own writing, fact-checking the work and publishing the article on various social-media channels.
Participants apply what they have learned in parallel in binational groups by developing their own articles, with a focus on the topics of the BEST Programme (Business, Entrepreneurship, Science, Technology). The best texts are pitched and published on various media channels.
