The Ukraine War and Its Impact on the Transatlantic Relationship

The Deutsche Atlantische Gesellschaft e.V. invites you to a discussion on the impact of the Ukraine war on the transatlantic relationship on 4 October.

With the invasion of Ukraine in February, Russia's president Vladimir Putin irrevocably shook the previous European security order and forced us Europeans to find answers to questions that for decades seemed to play no role. Since the invasion, Europe has faced entirely new challenges. The transatlantic response has so far shown remarkable unity: in addition to national arms deliveries, a total of EUR 2.5 billion in aid now supports the Ukrainian armed forces under the European Peace Facility.

The panellists will include the experts Roger Zoerb, Elisabet Tsirkinidou and Michael Simon. Also on the panel will be former Federal Minister Sigmar Gabriel.

Sigmar Gabriel, born in Goslar in 1959, was federal chairman of the SPD from 2009 to 2017 and Vice-Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany from 2013 to 2018. Among other posts, he was Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy from December 2013 to January 2017 and Federal Foreign Minister from January 2017 to March 2018. Since 2018 he has been chairman of Atlantik-Bruecke.
